About & Introduction
Therapy should make room for the whole person. You should not have to separate your mental health from your identity, body, relationships, health, environment, or lived experiences.
I am Z. Hamilton Avery, LCSW, and I provide online psychotherapy for adolescents (13+), adults, and older adults. I work with people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, chronic illness and pain, suicidal thoughts, grief, stress and burnout, identity, self-worth, and major life transitions. I have particular interest in supporting LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent people, people living with disabilities or chronic health conditions, and those who have not always felt understood within traditional systems of care.
My approach is humanistic, person-centered, trauma-informed, and integrative. Therapy may include exploring patterns and experiences, developing practical skills, strengthening self-compassion, clarifying values, practicing mindfulness, building emotion regulation skills, or attending to connections between the mind and body. I draw from ACT, DBT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, CBT, mindfulness-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and other evidence-informed practices according to what is useful for each person.
I value curiosity over assumptions and collaboration over prescribing what someone’s life should look like. You do not need to perform a particular version of wellness, identity, or healing in therapy. My role is to understand your experience, support your autonomy, and help you discover approaches that fit who you are and the life you want to build.
